Timor-Leste and India Set Up a Bilateral Consultation Mechanism
On March 27th, 2026, in Dili, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Madan Kumar Ghildiyal, establishing a Bilateral Consultation Mechanism between the two countries.

The mechanism creates a structured platform for regular dialogue among senior officials, aiming to strengthen policy coordination and foster cooperation in priority sectors, including trade, education, health, and technical cooperation. It also facilitates strategic exchanges on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
The signing is part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Timor-Leste and India. It establishes a framework for regular dialogue to monitor and foster cooperation between the two countries.
